A Special Celebration at Pittsburg

A few weeks ago we had a special party at our Pittsburg program celebrating a very special lady named Margaret.

Margaret was one of the first people supported by RES Success when we opened in 1994. Now after 30 years together, Margaret is retiring from her time at RES Success to receive additional support that she needs as she ages.

Last week, we held a small celebration for Margaret along with her sisters, Jean, Geri, and Sue. Ian Bremner, founder and executive director of RES Success, and Nicole Doubley, director of program operations, visited to honor Margaret along with the Pittsburg program team.

Margaret started at RES Success at the Martinez program at a time when we also provided residential services nearby. She later moved to the Pittsburg program.

Mandy Jones, a direct support professional at Pittsburg, has been supporting Margaret for years and has become a special friend of the family.

When we provided residential services, Margaret loved to help cook. Staff at both our Martinez and Pittsburg programs remember that she loved dancing to music, especially Buddy Holly and “oldies music.” She also loved to make paper chains and other crafts and decorate with them.

Mandy remembers that she had a special affinity for horses. “Years ago, we went out to a horse ranch,” she said. “Margaret was so happy and so gentle with the horses.”

At RES Success, we are committed to providing person-centered support. This means that we work with individuals and families to plan supports that work for each person — that meet their individual needs and help them pursue the goals and activities that they find meaningful and rewarding.

The benefits of a person-centered approach like this include building understanding and long-term friendships. And while this makes it hard to see a friend like Margaret move on to new things, it also makes our time together so much more wonderful! We wouldn’t have it any other way!

Thank you, Margaret and family, for 30 years of friendship!

We are so grateful to have been part of your story!
